Some drivers seem like they were born with an innate knowledge of what each dashboard warning light means - it's an amazing skill, it really is. Whenever even the most obscure indicator lights up, they know just what it means, and they know just what to do. But some of us aren't quite so lucky.
We know that we need to reference an informative dashboard light guide to decode those hieroglyphics on our Audi A5's console; and, if you're reading this article, we expect that you do, too. So, here it goes!
3 Different Levels of Dashboard Symbols
In general, there are three different types of Audi A5 dashboard symbols, which are grouped by severity.
1.Green Lights: These are technically considered indicators rather than warnings. They simply let you know when a system is engaged or working properly, such as Cruise Control or Turn Signals.
2.Yellow Lights: These Audi lights indicate a rather mild issue - you should schedule professional service as soon as possible. We're talking about something along the lines of the Check Engine.
3.Red Lights: Red lights mean that there's an automotive emergency that needs to be resolved immediately. If you're driving, pull over right away; if you're parked, don't start driving. You should contact your nearest Audi Service Center, as you and your family could be in danger. Examples include an Electrical System Malfunction indicator or a Steering Malfunction light.
Dashboard Symbol Overview
Now, we'll take a closer look at specific icons and what they mean. As always, contact us with questions.
Brake Malfunction Light. This one simply looks like the word BRAKE (in all caps). Please stop your Audi right away and check the brake fluid level. If you need help, contact your closest FL Audi service center.
Oil Pressure Warning. A pictograph that looks like an oil can with a drop coming out of the spout. Your oil pressure is too low, which is something that's best resolved by a professional. We could surely help.
Oil Level Warning. As an icon, it looks just like the Oil Pressure Warning icon, but it says MIN (in all caps) underneath the drop. You should add a half-quart of oil at a time until the warning light finally turns off.
Passenger Safety Belt Indicator. Please…drive with your seatbelts on - there are laws in all fifty states!
Transmission Malfunction Alert. If you see a red circular gear with an exclamation point in the center, you should pull over immediately - do not continue to drive! Contact your Audi dealer for assistance.
Air Suspension Malfunction. The indication for an Air Suspension Malfunction looks like a diagram of the A5 with a two-directional arrow extending from the center of the frame. Ground clearance is low!
Electronic Stabilization Control. Your Audi A5's ESC system is crucial. When the ESC OFF indicator comes on (it reads just like that, in yellow and in all caps), it means that your stability is severely restricted.
Tire Pressure Monitoring Light. For the past few decades, all cars sold in America are required to include a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Don't let your tire pressure get too low. It's quite dangerous, as well as bad for your car's efficiency and overall performance. This symbol is just the acronym TPMS (in caps).
