Audi is still perfecting it's experimental plug-in concept known as e-tron. It's expected to be the electric power converter used in upcoming models by 2020, including the Audi A3 and Audi A4 - according to the auto maker.

Braman Audi currently offers up the fuel efficient gas powered variant of these models, and is expected to be one of the first to get fully electric / rechargeable vehicles once the Germany company releases them to the public.

CEO Rupert Stadler spoke of this tech at a recent Audi Annual Press Conference. He said the auto maker is planning to offer the A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid by 2014:

"While we are planning small-scale series production for this car, which is a vital element in our innovation and technology plans, the electric driving experience will become a reality for a growing clientele with our plug-in hybrids," Stadler said.1

Stay tuned for more news, and we'll know more about power specifications and pricing as Audi releases additional news.
