Audi recently put a stop to developing hybrid technology, instead going for super-efficient, high-performance cars with clean, state-of-the-art diesel power. They haven't, however, given up EV technology. On the contrary, they've just announced their first-ever electric vehicle pilot program in the U.S.

Like most pilot programs, Audi will use the feedback garnered from participants in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Denver to inform design and engineering decisions surrounding next-generation electric vehicles introduced to different markets worldwide.

Unlike, other EV pilot programs, Audi's will be testing the one-of-a-kind A3 e-tron. Featuring a pure electric powertrain and emitting zero emissions, the A3 e-tron delivers nearly 200 lb.-ft or torque, a convenient 90-mile driving range (per full charge), and righteous top speed of 90 miles per hour (mph)!

Audi promises all of the aforementioned eco-friendly benefits without sacrificing the A3 luxury sport sedan's seductive body or spacious, versatile interior.

"The [Audi] A3 e-tron pilot program serves as an important innovation platform for Audi to develop greater insight into electric vehicles and how American driving conditions affect use of the progressive technology in everyday life," explains Jeff Curry, E-Mobility & Sustainability Lead, Audi of America. "We will integrate the data generated from this program into the launch of a range of Audi e-tron models for American drivers."1
