Audi has had their front wheels spinning fast in the motorsport arena and on your nearby highways and byways for quite some time. Now, the revered luxury automaker is bringing everyday performance enthusiasts, such as you and all of us at Braman Audi, a treat from the track.

No, we're not talking about more horsepower. Too many more extra ponies of power, and the new Audi models you currently see driving around the greater West Palm Beach area would cease to be street legal. Rather, we're referring to a potentially life-saving innovation.

To support the rubber-screeching performance of their checkered-flag lineup, Audi has had to infuse its track-bound vehicles with many safety features. Audi has decided to bring one of these features - its digital rear-view camera, which premiered at Le Mans in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro and R18 ultra - to its commercial lineup.

While Audi has yet to divulge exactly what model(s) will receive the digital rear-view camera first - the A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, allroad, Q5, Q7, TT or R8 - we can tell you that it will be sans rear-view mirror. Instead, the system relies on a slim monitor connected to a digital camera.

Now, you might be wondering exactly what the advantage of this modern configuration is. We'll tell you. With a lens width of just a few millimeters, the camera displays a significantly larger field of vision on the screen than that which is reflected back via its standard counterpart.

To learn more about the transcendence of the track-bred digital rear-view camera into new Audi models, be sure to stay tuned to the Braman Audi blog. Or, better yet, subscribe to our RSS feed. That way, you'll be among the first to know when this highly-anticipated safety feature hits the market.
