Here at Braman Audi we get pretty excited every time we hear about a new technology that Audi has in the works and we make an effort to tell you all about it here on our blog. Today we want to tell you all about the new taillight concept that the designers at the German HQ have been producing.
The taillights on a car can only tell us a few things; brakes applied, turn signal flicked, and sometimes a shift to reverse. The dreamers at Audi are trying to reinvent the way we think about taillights all together. So they created the Audi Swarm Taillight Concept.
The Swarm, is a system of organic light emitting diodes or OLEDs that are used to better communicate a driver's actions to others on the road. The concept included one big taillight that spanned the rear of the car with thousands of these tiny lights turning on and off at specific intervals. The effect is something close to a lava lamp as the light flows back and forth across the car. While idling, the lights are in a relatively static pattern but when pressure is applied to the brakes the lights move faster and faster becoming brighter and more intense as the pressure increases.
Audi has given no indication to whether or not this emerging technology will be applied to any upcoming models. We would love to see it on an Audi S8 in West Palm Beach, but until we get an official word, we will just have to keep our fingers crossed.
